After an early Montreal Impact goal, D.C. United midfielder Yamil Asad converted late Saturday to scrape together a point in a 1-1 draw at Stade Saputo.
The Impact drew blood first five minutes after the whistle. Montreal captain Ignacio Piatti took the ball into United's penalty box. His shot was deflected by defender Kofi Opare, which put the ball in the perfect spot for Impact forward Matteo Mancosu to finish.
United reacted to the early goal with dominating possession to end the first half. United took several shots, but could not evade the posts. In the 38th minute, United captain Wayne Rooney looked to even the score with a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Rooney's shot curled toward the goal, but did not curl enough and hit off the right post.
United finally got its equalizer in the 70th minute when Luciano Acosta skillfully set up Asad for his ninth goal of the season. In a game where last-place United desperately needed three points, the Black-and-Red head home bloodied, bruised and no closer to catching Montreal in the standings.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: While Asad's goal was a crucial moment for United, Rooney's missed free kick embodied the club's unlucky night.
MAN OF THE MATCH
: Asad scored his ninth goal as a member of United, but the equalizer would not have happened if it weren't for United's playmaker Acosta. Acosta recorded his ninth assist of the season against Montreal, which is almost double his number of assists last season.
