Below is a selection of the notable performances and moments from the 14 matches played on the 21st matchday of the 2023 MLS season, Saturday, June 24.

Carranza and the Union Overpower Inter Miami CF

The* Philadelphia Union* scored three first-half goals, including scores by Jakob Glesnes, Julián Carranza, and Leon Flach, en route to a resounding 4-1 victory over Inter Miami CF. 

Carranza, who leads the club with 10 goals this season, has recorded at least 10 scores in each of the last two seasons after scoring a career-best 14 in 2022. He became just the second player in Union history with consecutive seasons with double-digit goals, joining SĂ©bastien Le Toux, who accomplished the feat from 2010-11. Carranza is also the third player in Philadelphia history to have multiple seasons with 10-or-more goals, joining Le Toux (2010, 2011, 2014) and Kacper Przybylko (2019, 2021).

Chicago Fire Win 300th Regular-Season Match

Behind Fabian Herbers' 47th-minute score, the Chicago Fire went on the road and defeated Sporting Kansas City, 1-0, at Children’s Mercy Park. 

Saturday’s victory marked the second consecutive win for the Fire and was the 300th regular season victory in club history. Chicago is one of just nine teams in MLS history to reach 300 regular season wins and they are the first team introduced after 1996 to accomplish the feat.

Revolution Remain Unbeaten at Home

The New England Revolution erased an early 1-0 deficit to defeat visiting Toronto FC, 2-1, at Gillette Stadium behind goals from Bobby Wood and Giacomo Vrioni. 

The Revolution (7-0-3 at home) have gone unbeaten in their first 10 home matches of a season for the first time in club history and are one of only two teams in MLS to be undefeated at home this season, alongside FC Cincinnati (10-0-0 at home). New England travels to TQL Stadium next Saturday, as they look to upend FC Cincinnati’s perfect home record and draw closer in the Supporters’ Shield standings.

Amaya and Red Bulls Find Scoring Groove

One of the league’s top defensive teams, the New York Red Bulls shined on the offensive end on Saturday, defeating Atlanta United, 4-0, at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls saw three different goal scorers aged 23 or younger on Saturday: Daniel Edelman, Cristian Cásseres Jr., and Frankie Amaya, the latter of whom recorded his first career multi-score match. 

Amaya, who entered the match in the 77th minute, scored in the 78th and 90th for New York, becoming just the sixth MLS player since 2000 to score at least twice after being subbed on in the 75th minute or later of a match.

Austin FC Completes Texas Twofer

Under a steamy Texas sun, Austin FC recorded a 3-0 victory over in-state rival Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday evening, after defeating another Lone Star State foe in FC Dallas, 3-0, on Wednesday night. Both Ethan Finlay and Gyasi Zardes scored in each of the two victories.

For the first time in the brief history of the club, Austin won consecutive MLS matches against FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo and has inched closer to both of their in-state foes in the Western Conference standings, where all three clubs currently sit in playoff position.
