NEW YORK (May 8, 2023) - In a collaborative effort to discuss information about head injury prevention and management in the sport of soccer, U.S. Soccer, Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and the United Soccer League (USL) will host a health and safety summit, “Head Injury Summit II; From Science to the Field”, on May 17-18 in Chicago.
With the mission of presenting evidence-based principles, policies, and procedures regarding head injuries, “Head Injury Summit II” will include two days of presentations and panel discussions led by medical professionals, stakeholders and researchers. Similar to the inaugural domestic summit hosted in New York in 2017 following the 5th International Conference on Concussion in Sport, the 2023 summit in Chicago will open with an embargoed presentation of key findings and conclusions from the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport held in Amsterdam, Netherlands in October 2022.
Beyond the scientific and medical presentations, the summit will provide a forum for expert discussion about advancements surrounding concussion care and player safety relevant to various ages and levels of soccer participation.
