NEW YORK — Eight MLS clubs are participating in the Marcus Tracy sweepstakes.
The league on Wednesday revealed that the weighted lottery for the former Hermann Trophy winner takes place on Thursday at 10 am ET and the New England Revolution have the best shot at landing the player with a 33.2 percent probability.
Tracy, who has struggled with knee tendonitis during three seasons in the Danish league, was recently in training with the Philadelphia Union and the club is also in the race for his rights with the third-highest probability at 16.8 percent.
The percentage chances for the eight teams are based on the last 34 matches dating back to last year and factor in playoff performance. Below are the clubs and their probability of landing Tracy in the weighted lottery as calculated by MLS:
New England Revolution: 33.2 percent
FC Dallas: 19.7 percent
Philadelphia Union: 16.8 percent
Real Salt Lake: 9.7 percent
Chicago Fire: 7.8 percent
New York Red Bulls: 6.1 percent
San Jose Earthquakes: 4.6 percent
Seattle Sounders: 2.1 percent
The Vancouver Whitecaps (Lee Nguyen) and Colorado Rapids (Kamani Hill) were precluded from participating after winning lotteries held earlier this year.
League rules require Tracy to go through the lottery system given he was a draft-eligible player back in 2009 and was presented with an MLS contract and declined it, instead signing for Danish side Aalborg. At the time, he was drafted by the Houston Dynamo, who lost his rights following the expiration of a two-year window after the draft.
