D.C. United avoided suffering a defeat to their archrivals the New York Red Bulls this past weekend, and Bill Hamid was almost certainly the reason why.
Hamid was downright heroic in goal for D.C., making seven saves (including pawing away a controversial shot off the goal line in the dying seconds) to record a second straight shutout in the club's scoreless draw against New York at Red Bull Arena on Saturday. It was an impressive performance and one that earned the young goalkeeper the MLS Player of the Week award for Week 3. See how the North American Soccer Reporters voted here.
The 22-year-old Hamid is off to a red-hot start this campaign. Through three games, he is the only goalkeeper with two clean sheets and leads the league in saves with 13.
