MLS will be taking a seat alongside the English Premier League, Ligue 1, La Liga and the Eredivisie as part of the newly formed World League Association, which unites many of the top-flight professional leagues from around the globe.

The five founding members of the association are: Major League Soccer, European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), the South African Premier Soccer League, the Thai Professional League and the United Arab Emirates League.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber was appointed to the organization’s 11-member Board of Directors, which features the likes of EPL chairman Sir David Richards and Spanish League president José Luis Astiazarán.

The goal of the group is to work together to promote professional soccer, to foster relationships among the leagues, to safeguard their common interests, to represent a single voice on the international stage and to organize exhibitions, conferences, training courses and other events.

The league heads are set to meet for the first time in Bangkok, Thailand, this September.
