After making his record-breaking move from Atlanta United to Newcastle United, Miguel Almiron has spoken with the English media for the first time.
Almiron, who departed MLS after two luminescent seasons in which he had 21 goals and 28 assists, isn't wary of the perceived jump up in class to the Premier League.
"I think for some time now the MLS has been improving," Almiron said as he was presented by Newcastle on Thursday. "Every year you see more and more quality players come in. I think it’s a good sign and a positive thing for that league.
“There are big differences between the two leagues... and [the Premier League] is a tougher league to play in," Almiron added. "But I think with the help of my teammates in training and the manager, it’s something I think I’ll cope with, and they’ll help me along the way.”
As the subject of both the MLS-outbound and Newcastle-incoming record transfers, Almiron isn't fazed in the slightest. In fact, it's a positive for him.
"First and foremost I see it as an honor," Almiron said. "It's something that I try not to pay too much attention to. It's something that it secondary when it's compared to me helping the team. I want to bring something."
Almiron will be available for selection for his new club on Monday, as Newcastle travel to Wolverhampton. Heading into the weekend, Newcastle sit just two points above the relegation zone.
"I physically feel good and it's good to focus, working hard and learning the tactics," Almiron said. "It's down to the manager whether I will be ready for Monday but certainly I feel ready and I'm keen to take part."
