As the MetroStars continue their quest for the MLS Cup championship, the club's Player Development Systems are building their own champions at the grassroots level with the launch of eight Elite Summer Training Schools.
The Schools are offering five-day sessions at eight locations in the Tri-State Area, with the first program beginning on July 11 in Toms River, N.J. Additional programs are also available in the following six counties in New Jersey: Ocean, Hunterdon, Morris, Hudson, Bergen, and Mercer as well as New Haven County in Connecticut.
Players 8-14 years-old that are playing at the travel level or higher are eligible for the program. Players are placed in groups with other players of similar age and skill level. The program will prepare players for the fall season by focusing on individual techniques and tactics, including speed, fitness and agility training.
As an added bonus, the MetroStars Summer Elite Training Schools will also serve as a means to identify players for potential opportunities with the MetroStars Academy teams. The best players identified within each age group will earn an invitation to play on a MetroStars Academy tournament team.
Each site is limited to just 48 players and will have a player to professional instructor ratio of 1:12.
