TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Re-signed
New York City FC announced Saturday that defender Maxime Chanot has signed a new multi-year contract with the club.
“I’m very happy to sign a new contract with New York," Chanot said in a statement. "The club has been very successful over the past few years and I know we will continue to improve and remain one of the best teams in the league."
Chanot has been a stalwart in defense ever since the 29-year old made his first appearance for NYCFC vs. Colorado in July 2016 after previous spells in England, France and Belgium.
Since then, Chanot has gone on to make 43 regular season appearances across 3,776 minutes, and five playoff starts in his first three seasons with New York City FC. He has scored four goals, including a key strikes on Decision Day presented by AT&T against Philadelphia to help secure a home field playoff game in the Knockout Round against the Union. He also scored during the 2018 Conference Semifinals against Atlanta United.
For Luxembourg, Chanot has 31 caps and three goals across all competitions since 2013.
Sporting director Claudio Reyna brought Chanot to the club in July 2016. The center back saw his option declined after the season but the new contract brings him back to the club for 2019.
“Maxime has been an integral part of our club since 2016 and has proven to be one of the best defenders in MLS," Reyna said in a statement. "He’s a fantastic leader in the locker room and we’re happy to have him at NYCFC for 2019 and beyond.”
