The recognition for Mike Magee’s rare and remarkable stint in goal just keep on coming.
The LA Galaxy midfielder has capped a wild week of kudos for his turn in goal last Saturday against San Jose by winning the Save of the Week for Week 15 in a landslide.
Magee’s 89th-minute stop on San Jose’s Steven Lenhart helped preserve a scoreless draw for the Galaxy, who lost starting goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to an injury and backup Josh Saunders to a red card before the first half whistle even blew. Magee played more than a half in goal to help save the day, and earned the MLS Player of the Week honor in the process, the first time the award was given to a goalkeeper this season.
Magee received nearly 56 percent of the vote, easily topping a one-handed save by Houston’s Tally Hall that denied a diving header for D.C. United’s Charlie Davies.
