The New England Revolution became MLS' first "Cupset" victims of the 2018 U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, twice blowing first-half leads to fall 3-2 to dogged USL side Louisville City FC in a Fourth Round clash at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisville.
Revs rookie Mark Segbers pounced on a poor touch by City goalkeeper Tim Dobrowolski to open the scoring, only for Oscar Jimenez to respond for the hosts. A Pat McMahon own goal restored New England's advantage, then Cameron Lancaster equalized shortly before halftime.
That set the stage for former Houston Dynamo draft pick Brian Ownby to win the game with a scintillating strike into the top corner from distance after the break, and despite their best efforts, the Revs – who fielded a hybrid lineup featuring both starters and reserves – were unable to find a response as the home fans roared their team on to victory.
