The Colorado Rapids are hoping to defy the odds and clinch an unlikely berth into the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs when they head to Banc of California Stadium to meet Supporters' Shield winners LAFC on Decision Day presented by AT&T.
LAFC (20-4-9) can set a new MLS record for single-season points with a win, breaking the previous record of 71 points set by the New York Red Bulls a year ago following a 1-1 draw at Minnesota United Sunday. Carlos Vela tied Josef Martinez's single-season goals mark with his 31st goal of the year, but Michael Boxall headed in the equalizer five minutes later.
The Rapids (12-15-6) moved within three points of the playoff line in the West after a stunning 3-0 win over FC Dallas, their fifth win in the last six games. Jack Price opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the 10th minute before Diego Rubio doubled Colorado's advantage in first-half stoppage time. Kei Kamara put the finishing touches on the decisive win with his 13th goal of the season in the 72nd minute.
In the first meeting this season June 28 in Commerce City, the Rapids stunned LAFC, 1-0, with Danny Wilson scoring the lone goal four minutes after the break.
