Looking good, US national team visits White House

President Barack Obama tells Bob Bradley that it's second round or bust in South Africa

If the US World Cup team gets the same compliments for their playing style as they did for their shoe style on Thursday, the trip to South Africa will be one to remember.

The US National Team was welcomed by President Barack Obama at The White House just three days before departing to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. And the team’s footwear was the talk of the visit.

Vice President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton, who is the honorary chairman of the USA World Cup Bid Committee, entertained the team while President Obama was wrapping up celebrating another sports team (Duke basketball) in the Rose Garden.

"I want to be on this team just for the shoes," Clinton said. "This is the only team that I've ever seen that had these cool shoes."

The shoes were the USA’s light brown Cole Haan Capers sported by both players and coaches.

Obama eventually joined the group and shook the hands of each player.

"This is the best dressed soccer team I've ever seen," Obama said. "Those are some sharp shoes."

After meeting with the President, the USMNT then received a tour of the West Wing with Vice President Biden serving as their guide. They exchanged gifts as well. Biden received an official team jacket while members of the US delegation received a special vice presidential coin engraved with Biden’s name.

The US play Turkey on Saturday, May 29, in Philadelphia before traveling to South Africa the day after. Biden was at Lincoln Financial Field just a few weeks ago for the first home game in Philadelphia Union team history.
