As the days tick down towards the first NY Derby of the year, the blue half of New York turned out in numbers to power Ebenezer Ofori to a Week 18 AT&T Goal of the Week triumph.
The Ghanaian midfielder ranged forward to lash a dipping left-footed drive from distance past Stefan Frei in New York City FC’s 3-0 home win over the Seattle Sounders on July 3, his second of the season and the capper to a third straight victory for the Cityzens – and it racked up an impressive 64% of the GOTW vote.
That left the contender from Minnesota United’s Mason Toye, one of his three goals in the Loons’ last three league games, in a distant second place at 27%. Orlando City’s Chris Mueller finished third on 4%, followed by efforts from LAFC midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye at 3% and his teammate Diego Rossi at 2%.
Up next, Ofori and NYCFC will visit their cross-Gotham rivals the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Sunday (6:30 pm ET | FS1 in US, TSN1 in Canada).
