Another summer, another final loss for Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Sunday's Copa America Centenario final defeat against Chile came with an extra helping of misery for Messi. After 120 minutes of scoreless soccer, the four-time Ballon d'Or winner's penalty attempt – Argentina's first after Sergio Romero saved Arturo Vidal's shot to begin the shootout – missed the frame entirely.
After he watched as a late goal decided the 2014 World Cup final in Germany's favor, and endured a second straight Copa America shootout defeat, you could see the pain on Messi's face (above) as Chile celebrated their repeat as champions.
"It was my turn to miss the penalty kick," Messi told reporters after Sunday's match. "I was the first to shoot and it was so important to make the difference and today it was my turn to miss it."
