UPDATE, March 15: Liga MX has announced that the league will now be suspending play until further notice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to a Sunday statement from the league, the measure will take effect following Sunday's match between Cruz Azul and Club America, which will be played behind closed doors. The league will be coordinating with Mexico's Ministry of Health on an ongoing basis to assess when play can resume.
Liga MX has decided to play the remainder of the Week 10 schedule of the Clausura campaign behind closed doors “as a preventive and prudent measure,” by the Ministry of Heath of Mexican government and Liga MX amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The same holds true for Liga MX women’s league, the Ascenso MX’s eighth round and academy tournaments.
“We will continue to maintain regular communication with the Ministry of Health regarding its recommendations and, of course, the preventative public health measures and prevention that will be implemented in stadiums for players, club personnel and media.,” the league said in a statement.
Two matches Friday night — Pachuca at Tijuana and Queretaro at Morelia — were played in front of fans.
There are four matches on tap Saturday with three more scheduled for Sunday.
