Liberopoulos brace lights up Frankfurt

Nikos Liberopoulos' double strike fired Eintracht Frankfurt to a comfortable victory over 10-man Bochum.

The lowly visitors were a man down after just four minutes at the Commerzbank Arena when goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes brought down Martin Fenin in the area and was dismissed, with Liberopoulos converting the resulting penalty.

The Greece striker added another just before the break and further goals from Marcus Steinhoefer and Marco Russ sealed victory for the hosts.

Bochum's hopes took a major blow in the opening minutes when Fernandes threw the ball straight to Fenin and compounded his error with a rash challenge which brought the red card.

Liberopoulos slotted his spot-kick beyond replacement stopper Renne Renno into the bottom-left corner.

Bochum nearly hit back straight away but Thomas Zdebel's shot from 10 yards was brilliantly saved by Markus Proll.

Frankfurt almost doubled their advantage in the 14th minute as man-of-the-match Fenin blasted a 25-yard drive against the crossbar with Renno beaten.

A good challenge by Habib Bellaid prevented Stanislav Sestak from equalizing on the half-hour before Liberopoulos headed the home side's second goal from Fenin's brilliant cross two minutes before the interval.

Steinhoefer's 40-yard free-kick in the 62nd minute produced the third goal, although Renno should have done far better with his effort from wide on the left.

The scoring was completed two minutes afterwards when Russ was afforded room to tap home from three yards after Patrick Ochs' lofted ball into the box.
