Sunday's US national team roster announcement served to provide the latest update on the status of LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan, who is currently taking a break from soccer to ponder his future as as professional.
The US national team's all-time leading scorer was not among the 25 players called up to Jurgen Klinsmann's January camp and the US manager explained why.
"Landon has not been invited because obviously he’s taking his break," Klinsmann told Fox Soccer's Goals on Sunday. "He’s thinking about his future."

Klinsmann revealed that he has been in touch with Donovan since MLS Cup 2012, where Donovan hoisted his second straight MLS Cup trophy with the Galaxy. But what he plans on doing this year is still a mystery, including to Klinsmann.
"He’s not at a point yet where he knows what he wants to do. It’s a simple as that," Klinsmann continued. "That’s why we didn't invite Landon. We’re as curious as everyone else as to what his decision will be at a future time. But right now he’s not part of our camp."
And while USMNT January camp opens on Monday at The Home Depot Center, Donovan will be on the other side of the country, representing the LA Galaxy at "Soccer Night in Newtown" alongside a host of other MLS players and American soccer personalities.
