The Landon Donovan retirement tour continues on Wednesday night, when the red-hot LA Galaxy roll into Montreal and Stade Saputo to take on the Impact.
When (or if) Donovan takes the field, it will be his first time playing in that stadium, even though the Galaxy and Donovan have played at Montreal once before. Back in May 2012, they drew the Impact 1-1, with Davy Arnaud and David Beckham scoring. That game took place at Stade Olympique, as opposed to Stade Saputo, the Impact’s smaller, permanent home. It is one of only two current stadiums in which Donovan has not appeared; the other is BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, where the Galaxy have already played their lone encounter this year.
Donovan has scored in 34 different stadiums throughout the course of his career, with StubHub Center the place where the plurality of his goals have taken place. He has scored 67 goals at his second home stadium (home since 2005), and the Carson, California, venue has a healthy 50-goal lead over Donovan’s next most preferred place to score goals, Spartan Stadium.
Among now defunct MLS stadiums, Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City was the place where Donovan was most comfortable. He scored a total of eight goals in 12 games at the stadium, the third highest total of any stadium he has played in. He also scored four goals in four games at Giants Stadium when the MetroStars/Red Bulls played there.
Below is a list of all the current MLS home stadiums and how Donovan has performed in each, courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau.
