Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez will make his anticipated home debut Saturday when the LA Galaxy host the Vancouver Whitecaps with both teams searching for their first win of the young season.
The Galaxy opened the 2020 season with a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo at a sold-out BBVA Stadium. Cristian Pavon opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a stunning strike, putting his curling effort past Marko Maric from the edge of the 18-yard box. The hosts leveled after halftime through Colombian Mauro Manotas, who latched onto a through ball by Zarek Valentin and slipped his shot past David Bingham.
The rebuilt Whitecaps dropped their home opener, falling at BC Place to Sporting KC, 3-1, Saturday night. Jake Nerwinski equalized 11 minutes after Alan Pulido's opening goal. But Gadi Kinda and Erik Hurtado added goals for the visitors, who took all three points from their Western Conference rivals.
