TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy continued their offseason rebuild on Sunday, signing a player hours before their first match of the season.
This move will likely have less of affect on their 2018 season but could have a big one on their future. The Galaxy announced the signing of 15-year-old midfielder Efrain Alvarez, becoming the seventh-youngest signing in league history. He originally signed with LA Galaxy II on Aug. 2, 2017. He played 45 minutes for the club in 2017.
Alvarez has been a creative force at the Academy level, as he had a big season in 2017 with the Galaxy. He led the Galaxy U-17/18s to the USSDA Championships at StubHub Center in July, scoring in the team’s quarterfinal, semifinal and championship matches. He was also a star at the 2017 Generation adidas Cup, collecting three goals and two assists in five matches.
Internationally, Alvarez has spent time with US youth national team and Mexican national team sides. Most recently, Alvarez was called into Mexico’s U-17 training camp in Mexico City. He featured for the Mexico U-15s at the Rimini Cup in Germany in 2017, in addition to a U-15 training camp last October.
