Dodger Stadium

The LA Galaxy will venture outside their comfort zone this summer, and they'll make a bit of history in the process.

On Wednesday, the defending MLS Cup champions announced their participation in the first-ever soccer event to be held at Dodger Stadium, home of baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers, on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Galaxy will be one of four teams involved in an International Champions Cup doubleheader that will also feature Italian champions Juventus, Spanish powers Real Madrid and English side Everton. The Galaxy are scheduled to feature in the second match of the doubleheader, but the opponent for the match has not been announced.

The Galaxy will take on Real Madrid at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Aug. 1 in their first International Champions Cup match. They wrap up their participation in the tournament on Aug. 6 or Aug. 7 with a match at Sun Life Stadium in Miami against one of four teams from the other group in the competition: AC Milan, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Valencia.

LA will return to league play following the three international exhibitions when they travel to face FC Dallas on Sun., Aug. 11 (8 pm ET, ESPN2).

Soccer will be one of two sports making their debut at Dodger Stadium in a matter of a few months. The iconic building is also opening its doors for an NHL game between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks in January 2014.
