WASHINGTON, DC - United for D.C, the charitable arm of D.C. United, is excited to kick off another year with the chance to provide the game-day experience to under-served youth throughout the D.C. Metro area. Since 2001, Kicks for Kids has provided free-of-charge tickets to regular season D.C. United home matches, free meal vouchers, t-shirts and access to transportation assistance to area non-profit organizations and other community-based groups that serve at-risk, disadvantaged or inner-city children. In 2008, Kicks For Kids is proud to be able to distribute more than 8,500 tickets over the course of the season, allowing an average of 425 attendees per game, all thanks to the generous donations from its sponsors.
"Kicks for Kids is able to provide a first-class professional sporting event to thousands of kids who might not otherwise be able to come to a game" said United for D.C. Executive Director, Sara Peterson. "We are excited to host the first group of beneficiaries in the stands on March 18."
The Kicks for Kids program has grown substantially over the years. Last year's efforts were well met, with more than 7,500 tickets donated to the disadvantaged youth in the D.C. community. United for D.C. was able to provide tickets to all 136 organizations that applied to this program. We look forward to matching or exceeding this goal in the 2008 season.
This program is made possible by various civic-minded corporations and foundations which have generously donated dollars to support Kicks for Kids. United for D.C. recognizes the following sponsors for various levels of support: World Cup benefactors include Distributive Networks, The Colburn Family Foundation and Citi, the Championship level partner is Miller & Long; Jones Day, and Zuckerman Spaeder, LLP are Black & Red partners, and adidas America, Brotman Winter Fried Communications, CSC, Levick Strategic Communications, Screaming Eagles, and VOA Associates Incorporated, all sponsor Kicks for Kids at the Supporters level.
