Juventus return to form vs. Reggina

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero scored on a penalty kick in his team's 4-0 win over Reggina.

Juventus returned to winning ways with a thumping 4-0 win over Reggina tonight which edged them into second place in the Serie A standings ahead of AC Milan.

Mauro Camoranesi put the Turin side ahead in the 28th minute and Amauri (44), Giorgio Chiellini (61) and Alessandro del Piero (74, penalty) earned all three points for Juve in difficult wintry conditions at the Stadio Olimpico.

The pitch was blanketed in snow by the end of the game after it began to fall shortly after kick-off and never relented.

Juve did not let up either when they got into gear to move above Milan on goal difference and three points behind league leaders Inter.

Juventus were still reeling after their defeat to the Nerazzurri last weekend and they kicked off looking to start another winning streak after the last one was ended at seven, and there was only one team in this game.

Camoranesi opened the scoring after 28 minutes when he ended a fine team move between three of Juve's old guard.

A neat back-heel from Del Piero sent Pavel Nedved into the left-hand side of the penalty area and he pulled the ball back to the Italy international, who placed his shot coolly into the roof of the net from eight yards.

Camoranesi was only on the field because coach Claudio Ranieri refused to take him off after an earlier fall on his right shoulder.

He wanted to be replaced, but Ranieri told him to give it a few more minutes and he was rewarded with the goal, although he did not re-emerge for the second half.

There was little need to either since Juve were already two goals ahead.

Brazilian striker Amauri showed his goalscoring instinct to poke the ball home as he lay on the floor after his header was blocked in the 44th minute.

The Juve goal was only tested once in the first half by Pinto Santos, who hit the crossbar in a goalmouth scramble.

The home side could have had more with Nedved's shot tipped over the crossbar after a good combination with Camoranesi and Del Piero.

They got their third in the 61st minute when Chiellini was provided with an easy header at the far post by Marco Marchionni.

Franco Brienza found the back of the net with a quickly-executed free-kick for Reggina which the referee disallowed since he had not blown his whistle.

When the whistle did blow, Brienza tried again and only just missed the crossbar.

Del Piero was then gifted the chance to score his 250th career goal when Sebastian Giovinco fell dramatically under a non-existent challenge from Bruno Cirillo inside the penalty area.

He struck the penalty into the roof of the net to add the icing on the cake for Juventus in the 74th minute.
