FC Dallas won't be the only team sporting hoops in MLS in 2014.
Defending MLS Cup champions Sporting Kansas City on Tuesday unveiled a new hoops-style away shirt for the new season with horizontal stripes across the front of the jersey inspired by the stripes in the team's logo.
What's also unique about the kit is the checkered pattern inside the team logo, which is meant to replicate the scene of their flag-waving supporters section at Sporting Park.
But that's not the only tribute to the fans. On the inside of the jersey, on the reverse side of the crest, is a “For the Glory of the City” badge which replicates the KC Cauldron’s banner at the 2012 US Open Cup final victory over the Seattle Sounders.
What also stands out on the kit are the two stars above the crest stacked on top of one another, commemorating the two MLS Cup titles won by the club in 2000 and 2013. The gold star indicates Sporting KC's status as defending champs.
