Jermaine Jones won’t be on the field tonight, when the US take on Argentina in the Copa America Semifinals (9 pm ET, FS1, Univision, UDN). Instead, he’ll be serving a suspension thanks to the straight red he got during the US’ last game, versus Ecuador, when he lifted a hand to the face of Ecuador midfielder Michael Arroyo during a confrontation.
That doesn’t mean he’s staying quiet about tonight’s match, though—and he gave a candid interview to Men in Blazers Monday for their latest Copa America pod special. And guess what? He thinks the US can definitely trouble Argentina.
“To be honest, I don’t get so much headache about them right now,” he told Men in Blazers by phone from Houston. “We know that Argentina is a team that like to play two in the middle, and they really focus on the middle, they have a lot of good players in the middle. But at the wing and the outside, there are some spots where you can hurt them.”
Hosts Michael Davies and Rog Bennett got the candid Jones to comment on the red card, too.
"Especially South American teams, they come out and they try to play, and then they see, oh, they cannot play against us… Then they start to get physical,” Jones said. “Then if you start to get physical on them, they start to cry. I’m a guy where if you go physical, then I go physical too.”
