TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Inter Miami CF have signed goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira for the 2021 MLS season with club options for the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, the club announced Wednesday.
Castanheira, 25, played with Miami’s USL League One team, Fort Lauderdale CF, during the 2020 season. He made 11 appearances and ranked fifth in USL League One with 44 saves, earning Save of the Week honors on three separate occasions.
“Dylan is a promising young goalkeeper who can learn a lot from being in the first team environment, training with the other goalkeepers and generally preparing as much as possible for his opportunity to earn minutes with the team,” Inter Miami CF chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a release.
Castanheira was originally a 2019 SuperDraft selection of FC Dallas, then spent that season accruing 21 appearances for Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship. The New Jersey native played collegiately at Columbia, making 44 appearances and earning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Ivy League honors as a senior.
Castanheira’s signing gives Inter Miami three goalkeepers ahead of the 2021 season, as he joins Drake Callender and John McCarthy on the depth chart. McCarthy assumed the starting role last year when Luis Robles, who has since retired, fractured his left arm. Callender, a US youth international who developed with the San Jose Earthquakes academy, is yet to make his MLS debut.
