MLS expansion club Inter Miami CF released renderings and video illustrating the club's proposal for a training complex to be used by its first team and academy at the site of Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Lockhart Stadium, which hosted MLS matches during the Miami Fusion days, would be upgraded as part of the plan and serve as the home of a potential future USL affiliate team. Manica Arquitecture, the same group overseeing the new Raiders stadium in Las Vegas, were tabbed to design the Inter Miami training facility.
Back on February 5, Fort Lauderdale city officials set a March 1 deadline for proposals to redevelop the 64-acre site that includes Lockhart Stadium. Inter Miami's ownership group had previously submitted its plans on January 28 before presenting to city commissioners on February 5.
Inter Miami are also currently engaged in lease negotiations with the city of Miami regarding a soccer stadium project near Miami International Airport after voters gave the green light via a referendum held in November 2018. The Miami Freedom Park project will include soccer fields, public park space and a commercial complex.
The club is set to debut in MLS in the 2020 season, making use of a temporary home for its inaugural campaign in the league.
