Vicente del Bosque has defended his decision to stick with the same players that achieved World Cup qualification rather than try out new faces against Armenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The Spain coach has named a squad of 24 for the upcoming qualifiers that is largely unchanged from the group which booked their ticket to South Africa last month.
It comes as a surprise to some who thought Del Bosque would experiment with new faces but he insists that would be a largely pointless and time-wasting exercise.
The former Real Madrid boss said: "We are already qualified for the World Cup and we only have five games before the tournament - two now, two more in November and one in March.
"We have to profit from them to the max.
"This is the group that will represent us in South Africa.
"That doesn't mean that this is a closed list, but we cannot be whimsical or go ahead shaking it up all the time."
Del Bosque also revealed the reason behind the inclusion of a greater number of players.
He added: "We called up 24 because we have two games, because there is intense club competition, and for the very purity of the tournament - because Bosnia and Turkey are playing to qualify."
Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos have been included in the squad after recovering from long-term injuries.
Real Madrid defender Ramos has been absent from the past three squads while Barcelona playmaker Iniesta was last available back in February, but both now return as does Andoni Iraola - a year since the Athletic Bilbao defender's last call-up.
Reports suggest Barcelona are not keen on Iniesta, who has only been back in training a fortnight, figuring in the list and will try to find a way for him to avoid joining up with La Roja.
But Del Bosque has dismissed this as nonsense.
"As much in the case of Iniesta as in that of Ramos, we have talked to their clubs and they did not put up any snags to their call-ups," he said.
"Neither in the case of (Villarreal midfielder Marcos) Senna, who in the past two games has not played 90 minutes for his team."
Spain visit Armenia on October 10 before playing in Bosnia-Herzegovina four days later.
