Howard suffers bruised ribs in collision

US goalkeeper Tim Howard suffered bruised ribs in a collision against England on Saturday, and will be evaluated on Sunday.

RUSTENBURG, South Africa – US goalkeeper Tim Howard has been diagnosed with bruised ribs, a US Soccer spokesman told MLSsoccer.com shortly after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with England.

Howard spent several moments on the pitch after England striker Emile Heskey went cleats-first into the US keeper in the 27th minute. After being attended to by the US trainers, Howard stayed in the game and put on a Man of the Match performance.

The Everton star was given a cortisone injection at halftime and will be evaluated on Sunday.

“In a couple hours I’ll be struggling, but hopefully I’ll sleep well,” he joked after the match.
