Houston's Romell Quioto wins MLS Goal of the Week for opening week of 2017

Romell Quioto made quite the entrance into MLS.

The Honduran forward was excellent in his league debut last Saturday, leading a dangerous Dynamo attack and scoring a goal as Houston began their season with a surprise 2-1 home win over the defending MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders.

He picked up another plaudit on Thursday, winning the inaugural MLS Goal of the Week award of 2017.

Quioto’s curling 24-yarder that put Houston up 2-0 in the 42nd minute on Saturday took home 28 percent of the vote, narrowly beating out San Jose’s Anibal Godoy (25 percent), Portland’s Fanendo Adi (22 percent) and Atlanta’s Yamil Asad (21 percent) to win Goal of the Week. Minnesota’s Christian Ramirez finished a distant fifth with four percent of the vote.

Quioto and Houston will look to start the season with a second straight win on Saturday, when they’ll host Columbus Crew SC at BBVA Compass Stadium (8:30 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
