Houston fans to pick their seats

Houston 1836 will hold "Pick Your Seat Day" on Sunday, giving season ticket holders and those pondering joining the party a chance to check out Robertson Stadium in person and decide which view they prefer. The event, which is scheduled to being at 2 p.m. CT, will be attended by the Houston 1836 ticket sales staff as well as selected players.

"The University of Houston is a great venue. Robertson Stadium is an ideal place to watch soccer," said Houston 1836 president Oliver Luck. "This would really be the first time for the MLS franchise to be in town, therefore, it will be a great opportunity for the fans to tour the facility and meet the players."

For two hours 1836 fans will be able to mill around the stadium on the campus of the University of Houston and decide where they would like to sit for the club's first season. Those who have yet to purchase season tickets will have an opportunity to do so as well, with several special ticket packages available. One such package is the Opening Day Pack, featuring tickets to Houston 1836's inaugural game as they take on the Colorado Rapids on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

"Just from the talk in the city, I think Sunday is going to be a good day to experience what the season's going to be like and see the excitement in the fans," said Houston 1836 midfielder Ricardo Clark. "They'll get to see what our team is about and I think we're going to have a good season here."

Houston 1836 are right in the middle of their preseason preparations. They will face Real Salt Lake this Saturday in a friendly in Austin at Round Rock Stadium. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and tickets are still available.

The squad will return to Houston following Saturday's match to be on hand for 'Pick Your Seat Day,' but soon after they will depart for Los Angeles for the next leg of their preseason training. The side will work out at The Home Depot Center in suburban Carson, Calif., from Feb. 28 to March 10.

1836 will then head to the East Coast to take place in the Carolina Challenge Cup in late March before opening day at Robertson Stadium. Coach Dominic Kinnear's side will face the USL's Charleston Battery, D.C. United and the MetroStars in the competition.
