As his second season with the Houston Dynamo winds to a close, Romell Quioto is contemplating Europe’s biggest stages.
Making a brief trip back to his homeland during the current international break, the Honduran attacker told Diez that he is ready to make his next career move, possibly as early as this winter.
“I still have not been told anything, I'm happy with the team, I'm fine there, but you want better things, to be able to play in Europe, but I have to see if I get it,” he said, noting that the Spanish leagues are a particular source of interest.
“Spain could be something very important, it would be a big jump. But those things are not in my hands and I just have to wait,” said Quioto.
“It could be Spain, England, wherever, I'm ready to play,” he added. “There is no approach from any league. Since those are things my representative handles, I only have to work and be focused with my team.”
Quioto, 27, was a key cog in the Dynamo's surprise run to the 2017 Western Conference Championship, scoring seven goals and three assists last season. He's netted four goals and 11 assists this year as Houston have struggled to build on their 2017 achievements. He no longer counts as an international on the Dynamo's roster, having received a green card in June.
Mired in a 10-game league winless skid, La Naranja have slumped to 10th place in the Western Conference standings but will host the U.S. Open Cup final vs. the Philadelphia Union on Sept. 26.
