Hoops' unbeaten mark reaches 19 after draw with Colorado

FRISCO, Texas --- A 2-2 draw against Jeff Larentowicz and the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park was good enough for FC Dallas to extend their unbeaten streak to 19 matches, setting a new MLS mark for a team within in a single season.

The result also equaled the all-time MLS record set by the Columbus Crew, who set the mark over the course of the 2004 season and the beginning of 2005.

FCD got goals from Milton Rodriguez in the 27th minute and David Ferreira in 37th the draw, but veteran Jeff Cunningham was left off the scoring sheet after coming on as a substitute in the 72nd minute. He remains at 132 career goals, equal to the MLS all-time mark with D.C. United’s Jaime Moreno.

Larentowicz scored in the 13th and 51st minutes for Colorado, who drew first blood. The former New England Revolution star finished off an assist from Omar Cummings for the first goal after an Anthony Wallace cross was deflected in the box by FCD holding mid Jackson.

Rodriguez answered with his fifth goal of the year, giving him a goal in three straight games. The sequence started when Ferreira fed Heath Pearce, who was dashing up the right side. Pearce then delivered a nice cross to Atiba Harris, who headed the ball off the left side of the crossbar.

The ensuing rebound fell to the feet of Rodriguez and he quickly finished, punching a shot into the left side of the net for the equalizer.

FCD took the lead off a nifty give-and-go between Ferreira and Marvin Chavez, but Larentowicz answered after the break with a header off a Jamie Smith corner kick.

FCD nearly took the lead off the foot of Heath Pearce in the 69th minute and Colorado’s Drew Moor came away empty-handed on a wide-open header in the 76th.

FC Dallas defender George John made his first appearance since Sept. 4 against Toronto FC, shelved for more than a month with a hamstring injury.
