Harvard professors offer course asking students to define why soccer is called "The Beautiful Game" | SIDELINE

A soccer ball goes into the soccer net (generic)

Ever catch yourself daydreaming of soccer during a lecture? Well, you're in luck. If you go to Harvard, that is.

Two Harvard humanities professors created a class for soccer aficionados in 2012 called The Global Game: Soccer, Politics and Popular Culture or Romance Studios 10, but it is hardly just a course that teaches you about the world's most popular sport. It's a study into why soccer is widely known as The Beautiful Game, forcing students to explore all the reasons both on and off the field for that distinct term. Interesting? Yes. Easy? Not quite.

Needless to say, the class has been a hit. Not only have Harvard administrators been thrilled with the class and how it challenges scholars, but the demand was higher than expected and forced the pair of soccer-loving professors to switch classrooms twice to make room for the 100-plus students that signed up.
