Guillermo Barros Schelotto expresses interest in Cristian Pavon

Cristian Pavon - Argentina - during 2018 World Cup

The LA Galaxy have been connected to Boca Juniors attacker Cristian Pavon recently, and Galaxy head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto admitted on Monday he was interested in a reunion with his former player: "Definitely, without a doubt."

"I know what he is capable of, and what he can give us towards the future," Schelotto told reporters at Galaxy training, as reported by FutbolMLS's John Rojas.

But even while acknowledging his own interest in the 23-year-old, an Argentina international who has drawn interest all over the world, Schelotto said he was unaware of negotiations being underway for the player in earnest at this point.

"As far as I know there's nothing close," he explained. "It will be nice to be able to sign him."

Rumors emerged last week that the Galaxy were getting ready to offer a whopping $12 million for 70% of the rights to Pavon, who had been recently valued as high as $50 million by Boca. With English clubs among those taking a look at the winger/forward, who has been called Lionel Messi's attacking "partner" by the superstar himself, the Galaxy would be aiming for Pavon to make an immediate impact as they look to solidify their Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs standing.

Schelotto, who won two Argentine Primera titles with Pavon at Boca Juniors, said the Galaxy need to improve their roster to keep pace in MLS, but downplayed the idea the team would go after the biggest names.

"I think we have a good list," of transfer targets, he said.
