A goal from a direct free kick was the difference as Chivas lost 1-0 to visiting Morelia on Wednesday night.
American Miguel Ángel Ponce played every minute from his usual left back spot for Guadalajara, who now have gone seven straight games without a win.
Monarcas were clearly the better team in the first half, knocking on goal a few times but ultimately unable to find the back of the net.
Chivas came out fired up for the second 45 and took it to Morelia, keeping the visitors with their backs against the wall. However, in the 77th minute, Adrián Aldrete struck a left-footed free kick that rung the crossbar and bounced inside the goal line to give Morelia the victory.
The result further dims Guadalajara's hopes for a playoff spot, as they remain at 11 points in Group 1, nine points out of second place. Morelia sit in fifth place of a very tight Group 3 with 13 points, just two removed from the second playoff slot.
