Mexican Primera División
Pachuca 1, Chivas 1
Los Tuzos and Chivas fought and clawed but could manage only a draw in a match that turned heated towards the end.
Pachuca’s three American amigos all saw action: Marco Vidal went a full 90 minutes, José Francisco Torres managed a shot in his 46 minutes on the pitch and Hérculez Gómez came on in the final five to try to steal a win.
On the other side of the pitch, Chivas’ Miguel Ángel Ponce put in a full effort at left back.
The tie marks Pachuca’s sixth straight winless match, putting them in third place in Group 2 and 16th place overall. Meanwhile, Chivas stay at third place in Group 1 and are in ninth place of the table.
Jaguares 4, Puebla 0
In Week 7’s most suprising victory, a struggling Chiapas trounced Puebla for their first win of the season. And they needed all of 17 minutes to do so.
Jaguares took the lead just three minutes before halftime and then took advantage of Puebla’s efforts to equalize and capitalized on the visitor’s mistakes to add three more early in the second half.
Midfielder Francisco Javier López wasn’t on Jaguares’ game-day roster.
Atlante 0, Estudiantes 1
Atlante missed a penalty and had a goal annulled, allowing Estudiantes, who also missed a PK, to steal the win with an 86th-minute tally.
Potros midfielder Sonny Guadarrama wasn’t included in the 18-man roster. Fellow American Samuel Ochoa, however, played up top for Estudiantes until halftime.
The loss keeps Atlante in fifth place of Group 2, while Estudiantes’ second win of the season wasn’t enough to see them climb out of sixth place in Group 1.
Morelia 0, América 2
After five years of not being able to beat Morelia at home, América finally came through.
Las Águilas surprised Monarcas in the fifth minute and proceeded to defend and counter for the rest of the game, a tactic that allowed them to score a second goal in the 58th minute.
Isaac Acuña wasn’t among the 18 for América, who now sit first in Group 2 and fourth overall.
Pumas 0, San Luis 1
Los Gladiadores fought their way to a second consecutive victory, defeating Pumas with a 28th-minute goal from the penalty spot.
San Luis responded to the felines’ attacking style by locking down on defense and countering, a strategy they implemented perfectly.
Left back Édgar Castillo didn’t dress for San Luis, whose victory ended Pumas’ home undefeated streak.
Mexican Liga de Ascenso
Orizaba 0, Tijuana 1
With the victory over Orizaba, Tijuana stayed undefeated and took the leadership spot in the Mexican Second Division.
Midfielder Joe Benny Corona was largely responsible for the Xoloitzcuintles’ victory. The American found some space on the left flank and delivered a picture-perfect cross to teammate Mauro Néstor Gerk, who just had to push it in for the goal.
León 2, Veracruz 2
Los Esmeraldas came back from a two-goal deficit in four minutes to tie los Tiburones Rojos 2-2 and earn just their second point from eight games this season.
Though things are still far from good for León, the draw against one of the strongest teams in the division gives them some hope.
Forward Víctor Sánchez García didn’t dress for León.
Lobos BUAP 2, Indios 0
Indios were unable to come back from two second half goals to suffer their second knock of the season.
In a closely contested match, the team from Ciudad Juárez was unable to fend off 65th- and 82nd-minute attacks from Lobos. The loss dropped Indios to fourth place in the table.
Midfielder Joaquín Alonso wasn’t in the 18-man roster for Indios.
Argentina Primera División
Estudiantes La Plata 2, Racing Club 0
Estudiantes scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, handing Racing a fourth straight loss and leaping to the top of the table in the process.
Both sides played a flat first half, but los Pincharratas got fired up early in the second and sealed the game by the 55th minute before dominating the rest of the match.
Midfielder Michael Hoyos wasn’t in Estudiantes’ game-day roster.
