LOS ANGELES GALAXY 1, NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 0
LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON
On the play of MLS Cup Honda MVP Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez:
"It was a great finish to a tough year. I am so proud of him. He has suffered and didn't score a single goal in the run of play. He came up huge and really picked the right time to do it. I never lost faith in him and before the game I asked him if he was ready to give something to the team today. He said yes and he did it. I had a feeling."
On the game:
"I thought it was a great game. It was full of close chances on goal, great saves and overall two great teams. It was definitely what the fans here and on television wanted to see. We must give credit to New England for being an outstanding team that was such a tough rival."
On capturing "the double" with the Galaxy:
"I am proud of the boys. We won the double and I am so happy to have brought that to Los Angeles. I don't wish to talk about myself. I want to recognize the work of everyone on the team who gave their all and battled to the end."
LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD LANDON DONOVAN
On the play of MLS Cup Honda MVP Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez:
"I want to first speak about character. Pando is a man with a tremendous amount of character. It was a tough year for him - - a lot like mine in Germany. He could have quit and decided to stop playing. But he didn't. I am stunned, impressed and just extremely happy for him."
On the 2005 season and his return to MLS:
"People didn't think I should come back (to MLS). A lot of people will probably still say that. But I made the decision. I am happy. People can say whatever they want. This has been the most satisfying year in my career. To have a culmination like this, it is just perfect."
LOS ANGELES GALAXY MIDFIELDER GUILLERMO "PANDO" RAMIREZ
On his feelings upon scoring the only goal of the game:
"It was incredible. I can't really explain what I was feeling. To score a goal in a final is unbelievable. When it happens to you, you don't really even know what you are feeling."
On wining MLS Cup:
"It is incredible. I am so happy. We achieved the goal we set out to accomplish. Before the game, the coach asked if I was ready to give something to the team today. I told him I was and it feels great to have helped us win the title."
On the 2005 season:
"This is one of the greatest moments of my life. We knew we had a great team. We went through some tough periods and for some stretches I barely played. But we were winning and in the end that was the most important thing. I just knew I had to work every day as hard as possible and wait to have a chance to play."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL
On the lack of goals from Taylor Twellman in the MLS Cup Playoffs:
"It's clear that he received no real service in the last several games, including today's match. It (the service) definitely could have been better and he really had little to work with. He was there for us all season and just didn't get much during the last few games."
On the Galaxy's game-winning goal:
"We would have liked to close it down, especially at that stage of the game. It is tough to give up a goal like that. It was tough because at that point we were huffing and puffing. The guys were exhausted."
On the Revolution's season:
"We have a lot to be proud of at the end of this season. We reached the championship, we won the East and we had the most wins in the history of the franchise. We accomplished a lot. But it all feels very insignificant right now."
On the Revolution's lack of scoring:
"Without a doubt if we had gotten an early goal everything would have changed. It would have opened up the game. It was a disappointing first half. We didn't move the ball fast enough."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER CLINT DEMPSEY
On the game:
"It was a physical game. We weren't able to get much space in the middle. We didn't get many chances and we had trouble in the attack. Everyone played very hard and gave it their all. We faced a tough time and their defenders really shut us down."
On the Revolution's season:
"We have a lot to feel good about. We went through a lot of adversity with national team call-ups and injuries. It is disappointing though. We feel we were the team that should have won today."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION GOALKEEPER MATT REIS
On the 1-0 loss:
"We only had two shots on goal, so it is tough to win games like that. We were not really that sharp around the goal. They did not allow us to get behind them."
On the lone goal conceded by the Revolution:
"It was a corner kick. I came out and punched it. I kind of got lost in the bodies on the ground. I punched it and it went right to him (Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez) and he hit it right away. It simply got by me and went in. I tried to punch it as hard as possible, I tried to get it clear from danger, but it did not happen."
On the performance of MLS Cup Honda MVP and Galaxy midfielder Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez:
"He is a great international player. And if you shoot enough times, it is going to go in eventually."
