Reports out of El Salvador this morning indicate a tragic end for former New York Red Bulls defender Alfredo Pacheco.
The 33-year-old defender, El Salvador's most-capped international, played for the Red Bulls on loan from CD FAS in 2009. Pacheco made 14 appearances for New York, totaling 1,180 minutes with 9 fouls committed and 8 suffered. The loan was canceled prior to season's end, and Pacheco went on to play for Águila (2010) and Isidro Metápan (2011-13).
He was one of 13 players banned for life (via ) by La Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol (FESTFUT) as part of a match-fixing scandal in 2013.
Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
