Fire Reserves defeat Crew Reserves 1-0

The Chicago Fire Reserves (5-5-1, 16 pts.) defeated the Columbus Crew Reserves (3-5-2, 11 pts.) today in the final seconds of a Major League Soccer Reserve Division match at TOYOTA PARK. Fire forward Tomasz Frankowski scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute off a free kick taken by midfielder Peter Lowry.

The Fire nearly opened scoring in the 28th minute of the first half as defender Lider Marmol sent a hard shot from the left side of the box toward the near post but goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum dove to save the ball. Just four minutes later, Columbus forward Steven Lenhart hit a ball that goalkeeper Nick Noble tipped over the crossbar to keep the score tied entering the half.

The Fire scored the lone goal of the match in the 90th minute as midfielder Peter Lowry sent a free kick from the right side of the field into the box for Frankowski. The Polish international got a head on the ball and placed it past Gruenebaum for the game-winner.

The Crew Reserves return to action on Oct. 19 to face the New York Red Bulls Reserves at Montclair State University (9:30 a.m. ET). The Fire Reserves will play the Toronto FC Reserves on Saturday, Oct. 18 at BMO Field following the first team game (6 p.m. ET)
