Fiorentina secured a third consecutive victory as they brushed aside struggling ten-man Reggina in Florence on Saturday.
Giampaolo Pazzini gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot after Amaranto goalkeeper Andrea Campagnolo saw red before substitute Alberto Gilardino killed the game off with a brace in the second half.
Stevan Jovetic had the host's first chance of the game as he fired a free kick into the Reggina wall from the left channel after Pazzini was fouled by Carlos Carmona.
The visitors almost took the lead in the 20th minute as Francesco Cozza tested Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey with a 30-yard free-kick.
The Frenchman did well to punch his good effort clear.
Five minutes later, Zdravko Kuzmanovic set up Jovetic who turned and fired in a right-footed effort which Campagnolo just managed to push round the post for a corner.
Just before the half-hour mark, Fiorentina defender Alessandro Gamberini fouled Djordje Rakic 30 yards out.
Cozza's effort hit the wall and his subsequent appeals for handball fell on deaf ears as the referee waved play on.
In the 31st minute Jovetic should have done better when he was picked out unmarked at the far post by Mario Santana's corner, but the Montenegrin youngster shot wide left-footed.
Fiorentina continued to push forward and left-back Massimo Gobbi almost got his name on the scoresheet with a fierce first-time shot which whistled inches over the bar.
And in the 38th minute the hosts were awarded a penalty after Campagnolo brought down Santana as he rushed out to stop the Argentinian winger shooting.
Campagnolo was shown a straight red card, forcing Reggina coach Nevio Orlandi to sacrifice Luca Vigiani for reserve keeper Christian Puggioni.
Pazzini stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick and made no mistake as he blasted the ball into the right corner for his first goal of the season.
Felipe Melo almost doubled the lead with the last action of the half as he headed a Jovetic corner just over the bar.
After the break the hosts immediately looked to double their lead as Marco Donadel tested Puggioni with a low shot from outside the area.
In the 50th minute Jovetic ran at goal before shooting wide with team-mate Gobbi in a good position to his left.
The visitor's best chance of the second half came on the hour-mark as Maurizio Lanzaro's right-wing cross was headed just over by Cozza.
Gilardino doubled the hosts' lead just five minutes after coming on for Pazzini in the 70th minute.
The Italy striker did well to beat the Amaranto offside trap as he latched onto fellow substitute Riccardo Montolivo's pass before slotting past Puggioni.
Cozza, who was Reggina's main threat all evening, saw a dipping shot from the left wing tipped over the bar by Frey in the 78th minute before Gilardino put the result beyond doubt three minutes later.
The former AC Milan striker showed excellent composure to flick a long ball over the on-rushing Puggioni with his head before tapping into the open net for his sixth goal of the season.
