Alberto Gilardino scored twice as Fiorentina returned to winning ways with a comprehensive defeat of Champions League rivals Roma.
The Viola's run of three successive wins ended last weekend with defeat at Udinese but they were back on form tonight and were already 2-0 up by the time Roma's efforts were undermined by the dismissal of David Pizarro in the 59th minute.
Juan Vargas and Gilardino did the damage, and they made their numerical advantage count in the second half as Gilardino grabbed another and Massimo Gobbi completed the rout before Julio Baptista scored a consolation for the visitors four minutes from time.
The win takes Fiorentina up to fourth - the Champions League qualifying place - two spots above Roma who are six points back.
Adrian Mutu and Mario Santana were injured for the hosts, while Felipe Melo was suspended for his part in a post-match brawl with Cagliari defender Diego Lopez two weeks ago.
Roma coach Luciano Spalletti had greater selection troubles with Cicinho, Alberto Aquilani, Mirko Vucinic, Vincenzo Montella, Jeremy Menez and Doni all sidelined and Philippe Mexes banned.
Roma's injury crisis should not detract from an emphatic performance from Fiorentina, however, who took the lead with the first chance of the game when Vargas beat goalkeeper Artur with a low shot from outside the box in the sixth minute.
Gilardino's bicycle kick was deflected straight to Artur minutes later and at the other end Matteo Brighi fired over at full stretch following Pizarro's cross from the right.
Fiorentina had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down after Daniele De Rossi appeared to bring down Stevan Jovetic, and Jovetic was hauled down soon after by Marco Cassetti, who was fortunate not to be shown a second yellow card.
The hosts doubled their lead two minutes into the second half when Gilardino exploited some poor defending to head home Franco Semioli's cross from the right.
Roma should have reduced the deficit with a swift counter-attack two minutes later. Brighi sent Baptista clear and the Brazilian waited for goalkeeper Sebastien Frey to come out before sliding a low shot across goal. It looked to be trickling in until Manuel Pasqual slid in and managed to clear the ball off the line.
De Rossi forced Artur into a fantastic reaction save in the 56th minute following skilful play from Gilardino and at the opposite end Cassetti hit the crossbar with a fierce strike from 15 metres.
The game turned nasty when Pizarro pushed Semioli after the players squared up to one another, and the midfielder was shown a second yellow card, having only been booked a minute earlier.
Fiorentina punished Roma almost immediately. Riccardo Montolivo picked out Gilardino with a perfect cross and the striker turned Cassetti before beating Artur with a low right-footed shot.
Baptista had a chance reduce the arrears but headed wide before the Viola added a fourth when Artur's save from Gilardino's header fell straight to substitute Gobbi who tapped home from close range.
Roma finally got on the scoresheet in the 86th minute when Baptista cut inside from the right, dribbled past two defenders and unleashed a right-footed shot past Frey into the far corner.
