FCD Juniors make strong showing at Winter Showcase

The FC Dallas Juniors U-15/16 and U-17/18 teams both earned a 2-1-0 record in the 2009 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase, held in Phoenix, Arizona this past week at the Reach 11 Sports Complex.


Both teams opened play on Saturday, Dec. 5 with the U-15/16 squad shutting out the Academy Select team 3-0 with goals from David Robledo, Jack Coleman and Ricardo Majia. The U-17/18's earned a 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy with goals from Ruben Luna, Jose Perez and Bradlee Baladez.


The Academy Select team was comprised of top players from around the country including five U-16 Juniors players, Marco Carrizales, Jonathon Top, Samuel Coleman, Daniel Garcia and Alex Frakenfeld and one U-18 player, Victor Ulloa.


After having Sunday off, both teams returned to the field on Monday, Dec. 7 to face the New York Red Bulls. The 15/16 team shut out the Red Bulls 2-0 with both goals coming from 13-year-old Emerson Hyndman, grandson of FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman. The 17/18's suffered their first loss of the tournament falling 3-1 with the lone goal for FC Dallas coming from Luna.


The FC Dallas Juniors concluded Showcase play on Tuesday, Dec. 8 with matches against the Santa Cruz County Breakers. The U-15/16 squad were shut out 1-0 while the U-17/18 squad earned the 3-2 victory including goals from Cody Adams, Luna and Daniel Premenko.


After completing the Winter Showcase, both teams will enjoy a winter break before returning for the 2010 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season on March 6 at Pizza Hut Park. Both teams will face the Lone Star Aztex Academy with the U-15/16's kicking off at 6 p.m., followed by the U-17/18's at 8 p.m. on Pizza Hut Park field 4.
