FC Dallas' parade of young, local talent continued this week with the signing of US Under-17 international Bryan Reynolds, age 15, to an MLS Homegrown contract.
Reynolds becomes the club's youngest-ever Homegrown player, breaking the record set just one week ago by HGP signing Jesus Ferreira. FCD have now inked an MLS-leading 17 Homegrowns in all, with nine of them on their current first-team roster. With Reynolds, Ferreira and playmaker Paxton Pomykal, Dallas have made three HGP signings this fall alone.
"You can see someone from the outside as a winger with his size that he has and his skill and speed he can definitely be a weapon for teams," FCD technical director Fernando Clavijo told FCDallas.com. "Getting all that talent into a professional men’s team is going to be a challenge, but that’s what Oscar [Pareja] is here for and I know he’s going to be able to do very well for us."
A native of Ft. Worth, Texas, Reynolds was part of the U-16 FC Dallas Academy team that won the 2015-16 US Soccer Development Academy national championship. His father Keith was a US youth international who played college soccer at nearby SMU under former FCD coach Schellas Hyndman.
In last month’s Generation adidas Cup regional qualifying event in Kansas City, Reynolds tallied five goals in three matches as FCD's U-18s went 3-0-0 with a goal differential of plus-13.
Last week, the winger scored a goal for the US U-17s in 38 minutes of action during a pair of friendlies against Jamaica. The Young Yanks are now preparing for the 2016 Nike International Friendlies, which kick off on Nov. 30 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida and serve as preparation for the U-17 World Cup qualifiers that begin next April.
