FC Cincinnati will look to avoid setting an MLS record for goals conceded, set by Orlando City SC, while the Lions are desperate for three points to keep their playoff hopes alive when the Eastern Conference foes meet at Nippert Stadium for the first time Sunday..
FC Cincinnati (6-22-4) have tied Orlando City SC's record of 74 goals conceded, set a year ago, but have clean sheets in two of their last three games, including a 0-0 draw against the Chicago Fire. Shots from from Roland Lamah and Emmanuel Ledesma forced diving saves from a previously-untroubled Kenneth Kronholm and Maikel van der Werff headed a Ledesma cross in the 80th minute off the crossbar.
Orlando City SC (9-14-9) avoided elimination from playoff contention when midweek results went their way, but they are six points below the playoff line with two games to play. The Lions are coming off a devastating 2-1 defeat to the Houston Dynamo last Saturday. Dom Dwyer gave the visitors the lead on six minutes, but Alberth Elis and Christian Ramirez struck three minutes apart in the second half to rally and take all three points.
This is the second meeting this year between the clubs, with Orlando City SC claiming a comfortable 5-1 win May 19. Tesho Akindele and Nani each scored a brace and Dwyer added a goal after Darren Mattocks put FC Cincinnati in front in the 24th minute.
