One US national team player will soon be claiming some hardware in Mexico.
Edgar Castillo and Omar Gonzalez are set to meet in the Liga MX final this week after helping their clubs advance from the semifinals.
Castillo (pictured below) went the distance for No. 1 seed Monterrey on Saturday, as they knocked off Ventura Alvarado's Club America 4-2 on Saturday in their series finale to advance via a 4-3 aggregate score. Gonzalez also played from whistle to whistle as No. 2 seed Pachuca edged William Yarbrough and Club Leon 2-1 in the decisive leg of their semifinal bout to take the series 3-2.
The two defenders, who were on the USMNT's preliminary squad for the Copa America Centenario but missed out on the final roster,have both been regular starters for their clubs during this Clausura campaign. Castillo, 29, has appeared in 15 games for Monterrey and contributed a goal. Gonzalez, 27, has started in each of the 20 games he has played in while also finding the back of the net once.
The first leg of the Liga MX final will be played at Pachuca's Estadio Miguel Hidalgo on Wednesday. The decisive fixture takes place on Saturday at Estadio BBVA Bancomer.
