Longtime MLS defender Alvas Powell has officially ended his time in MLS, and on Tuesday officially joined Sudanese club Al Hilal Educational Club. He was last with Inter Miami for the club's inaugural MLS season.
Powell will be with the Sudan Premier League club until the end of the 2020-21 season, with an option to extend the deal another year. The team finished runners-up last season, and is the 27-time champion of the league. The club is based in the city of Omdurman.
Powell ends a seven-year spell in the United States, joining the Portland Timbers in 2013. He spent a year with Sacramento Republic in 2014 before returning to Portland, where he won MLS Cup in 2015. He was then traded to FC Cincinnati ahead of the club's inaugural season in 2019, and then joined Miami in 2020.
Miami declined Powell's option at the end of the 2020 season after he made five appearances for the team.
