University of Washington center back Ethan Bartlow and University of Virginia midfielder Bret Halsey have both signed Generation adidas deals ahead of Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft 2021 presented by adidas (2 pm ET), the league announced today.
Their additions bring the 2021 Generation adidas class to five, with Bartlow and Halsey joining forward Calvin Harris (Wake Forest University), midfielder Philip Mayaka (Clemson University), and midfielder Daniel Pereira (Virginia Tech).
Bartlow, a junior, earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors during the 2019 season in which he also earned All-Pac-12 First Team and Second Team All-American honors. The 6-foot defender had six goals and three assists through 38 starts while at Washington.
Halsey was a two-time ACC All-Tournament Team selection while at UVA, starting in 31 games over the last two-plus seasons. The junior midfielder had one goal and two assists during the 2019 season as the Cavaliers advanced to the national final and won the ACC tournament.
The draft-eligible list now stands at 174 players. Those available for selection include college seniors, Generation adidas players and players who have waived their college eligibility by signing to play in a domestic professional league since the conclusion of the 2019 college soccer season.
After the SuperDraft, Generation adidas players and additional draftees will join their MLS clubs for 2021 preseason. Others may compete for their college team during the Spring 2021 semester before reporting to their MLS clubs in late May.
Round 1 of this year’s SuperDraft will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com, the MLS App, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Pluto TV. Every pick can be followed at MLSsoccer.com's MLS SuperDraft tracker.
