Houston Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear clinched the title of MLS All-Star coach with the Dynamo's tie Saturday night over Real Salt Lake at Robertson Stadium. Kinnear will coach the MLS All-Stars for the first time in his career on July 29, when they face English club Everton at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
The MLS All-Star coach is awarded to the coach of the team with the most points per game as of June 28. The Dynamo have clinched having the league's best record through June 28.
Kinnear, in his sixth year as head coach and fourth with Houston, has the best regular season winning percentage in MLS history at .610 (74-37-57), and his 74 wins rank 10th in MLS history. In all competitions, Kinnear is closing in on 100 career wins with a record of 95-53-72.
In three years as Dynamo head coach, Kinnear has led the team to two MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007), two semifinal appearances in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup (2007, 2008), the quarterfinal stage of the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League (2008-09), one appearance in the final (2008) and one appearance in the semifinals (2007) of SuperLiga, a first-place regular-season finish in the Western Conference (2008), and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals (2006). He has been nominated for MLS Coach of the Year in each of the last three seasons.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that has won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and qualified to represent the United States in four consecutive regional championships. The Dynamo will play at least five consecutive road games over the next month, beginning June 28 against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
